I dreamt that I was an immortal mermaid that could also turn into a human and spent most time as a human. I woke from a deep sleep and couldn’t remember who I was and others around me told me this truth about being a mermaid and told me who my parents were (powerful gods/magical beings that lived in a house far away) . I had the ability to turn invisible. With this ability I spied on some of the others and discovered from their conversations that maybe I was not really a true child of those powerful beings. I got curious who my real parents were and used my invisibility to spy on the powerful God parents, who those around me had told me they were my parents, in their far away house. I was trying to be careful not to make noise so the powerful parents wouldn’t find out I was snooping around their house. I could also fly. The God parents started drinking wine and got tipsy, I accidentally knocked something over and They sensed my presence. Then they told the air that they thought was me that they were not my real parents. That being the magical mermaid was a curse and they used to have that curse and they passed it to me, but I was in a hibernation state or something all this time. I was flying just out of reach but listening intently. I didn’t want them to catch me because I feared them. But also realized: that maybe the ones who I thought were my friends were complicit in this deception all along . So felt betrayed and still needed to get to the bottom of the mystery of where I really came from.
Your dream is rich in symbolism and layered meanings that reflect deep psychological themes and personal experiences. Let’s break it down to gain insights into its various elements.
Being an immortal mermaid symbolizes a connection to both your emotions (represented by water) and your desire for freedom and exploration. Mermaids are often seen as enchanting figures that straddle two worlds—land and sea, human and mystical. This duality can reflect your current life, where you may feel torn between different identities or roles. The ability to turn into a human suggests a yearning to belong and adapt to societal expectations, but there’s an underlying feeling that this transformation may come with a cost.
Waking from a deep sleep and forgetting your identity speaks to feelings of uncertainty or confusion in your waking life. This might relate to a situation where you are questioning your self-worth, origins, or place in social groups. The fact that others inform you about your past reflects society's influence on your self-perception; it might indicate that you are allowing external voices to define who you are, leading to a disconnection from your true self.
The powerful godlike figures representing your parents can symbolize authority figures or ideals in your life that you aspire to reach or feel overshadowed by. Their status as magical beings may point to expectations placed upon you—whether self-imposed or by others. However, discovering that they are not your real parents hints at a quest for authenticity and truth, especially in a world where you may feel manipulated or constrained.
Your ability to turn invisible illustrates a desire to observe and discern hidden truths without being detected, representing feelings of vulnerability. Spying on conversations suggests a fear of betrayal or a desire to uncover secrets about your relationships. This part of your dream emphasizes a mistrust in others or a heightened sense of awareness regarding how people perceive you and the reality surrounding you.
The discovery that your supposed parents deny you and label your magical state as a curse communicates feelings of abandonment, fear, and betrayal. It reflects a need to reassess relationships and truths you’ve accepted without questioning. As you grapple with feelings of being deceived by friends or allies, it could indicate feelings of loneliness or the struggle to find where you truly belong.
Your ability to fly ties into themes of freedom and aspiration. It signals your desire to rise above challenges or limitations and to transcend the ordinary. However, flying just out of reach during the spying scene indicates a struggle: while you may have the capability to elevate yourself, emotional hurdles or fears are keeping you grounded.
Overall, your dream captures a transformative journey of self-discovery, identity crisis, and the search for truth. It reflects your deep-seated desires to connect with your true self, uncover hidden truths, and navigate the complex relationships in your life. Pay attention to the feelings or situations from your waking life that resonate with these elements; this dream may be encouraging you to confront truths about your past and present, embrace your individuality, and connect with your innate power to forge your own path.
